About
the Reiki Council

The
Reiki Council was formally founded by Rick and
Connie Vrenios in 1998 as an extension of their
private practice and classes. While many
students of Reiki around the Chicago area felt
abandoned by their teachers until the next paid
class, Rick and Connie taught much more in an
apprenticeship style. As people started to
hear about the ongoing benefits of studying this
way, they began to contact Rick and Connie to
see if they could participate.
Rather
than take students away from their teachers,
Rick and Connie formed the Reiki Council as an
association to provide a pathway for people all
over the area to participate and benefit.
Soon people were coming from Indiana, Wisconsin
and across Illinois to join in on events.
Inquiries started to flow in from as far away as
Washington state seeking options for
participation. In 1999, the Reiki Council
became a national membership organization.
On
January 1, 2000, the Reiki Council became the
first U.S. Reiki organization to be able to
offer professional liability insurance for its
members. While we made a strategic
decision not to continue the program in 2003, we
opened the doors for several other organizations
to pick up where we left off.
Over
the years, Rick and Connie and the Reiki Council
continued as visionaries and innovators
developing three systems of healing, known as
Reiki-ssage, Reiki-Reflex system of Reflexology,
and the Reiki Facelift. They empowered the
Reiki Council as the exclusive, world-wide
governing agency for those systems of natural
therapy to ensure the integrity and continuation
of these systems of bodywork.
The
creative innovations continued with the writing
of 2 books, 8 healing message art prints, 8
audio CD programs, and the Reiki Council became
a fully credentialed publisher.
In
2008, the Reiki Council is now undergoing the
process to convert our organization to a
not-for-profit, 501(c)3 charitable
organization. This program will create the
required environment to allow the Reiki Council
to continue its work as a membership
association, provider of quality education, and
philanthropic organization.
As
an educational organization, we are
credentialed, approved, or accepted by several
national and state agencies, associations, and
organizations.
